Description
Barley End is a stable and loft over a cart shed located in Little Witley, dating from the 18th century, with some 19th-century alterations. The building features a timber-framed structure set on a sandstone plinth, with brick infill and refacing, and a mid-19th-century cart shed. It has tiled roofs and consists of a straight range of four framed bays, with the cart shed adjoining at the lower end, forming the eastern enclosure of the fold yard.
The stable and loft are two storeys high, with a timber-framed elevation facing the road that includes four irregular long braces supporting the posts. The elevation towards the fold yard has a brick ground floor with three doorways featuring rounded brick surrounds, while the first floor and gable ends are clad in weatherboarding.
The open brick cart shed has two elliptical arched entries on each side and is included for its group value.
