Description
The Old School House is a former school house dated 1874, constructed from red sandstone ashlar with a tiled roof. The building has an L-plan layout, with the house range aligned north to south and the former school room projecting to the west. There is a 20th-century extension in the angle at the rear, designed in a Tudor Gothic style.
The structure is a single storey with an attic, featuring a moulded plinth, a roll mould to the cornice, and chamfered corner blocks. It has two windows: two-light stone cross mullioned windows in the dormers, a canted bay, and a three-light stone cross mullioned window on the ground floor, which flanks a central porch with a ledge door. The south gable includes an oriel window supported on three brackets.
The school room has an inserted floor and 20th-century dormers, along with two original cross-mullioned windows on the ground floor that have a continuous hood mould above them. There is a corbelled bell cote on the west gable, and decorative shafts adorn the chimneys.
