Description
The Forge is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure, with sections of painted brick and wattle-and-daub infill, a sandstone plinth and stack, and roughcast render. The roof is slate. The building consists of two framed bays aligned east to west, facing south, with additional structures at the rear. It has a central entrance and a west gable end stack. The house is single storey with an attic, which includes two dormers that have 2-light casement windows. Similar windows are located on either side of the doorway, which is sheltered by a gabled porch and features a ledged door. The framing is fairly complete, consisting of three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with angle bracing in the top panel extending from the main post to the wall-plate. There are also traces of lozenge framing in the east gable.
