Description

Church Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is timber-framed with rendered infill, a sandstone plinth, and a sandstone rubble south gable. The rear and north gable end are roughcast, with a thatched roof. The house is aligned north/south and faces west, with a lean-to extension to the rear and north gable end. A central entrance is present, along with a main stack on the north gable and a lateral stack on the right side of the south front.

The house is single-storey with an attic; a left-of-centre eyebrow dormer features continuous glazing. The lean-to has a four-pane window. To the left of the south gable’s C20 canopy is a small window, and to the right is a four-light casement window. A small two-light window is also present to the right. The south gable end windows have square-headed labels. The timber framing appears largely intact, with three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate. The south gable end wall, built of sandstone rubble, appears to have been rebuilt sometime after 1813; a drawing in the Record Office at Hereford from that year shows a timber-framed gable end.
