Description
Grove Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 17th century, with alterations and extensions from the 18th century and mid-19th century, and further changes made in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed with rendered infill and features a sandstone plinth, along with sandstone rubble additions that have brick dressings. The roof is partly slate and partly tiled.
The farmhouse has an irregular plan consisting of two framed bays that are aligned east to west, with the north front facing the road. Later additions extend to the west, and the current entrance is located in a lean-to at the angle of this extension. There is a large axial stack in the extension and a lateral stack in the lean-to on the north side. The timber-framed section is single-storey with an attic, featuring a dormer that has a 12-light window above the lean-to. The two-storey addition has a higher roofline and includes 2- and 4-light casement windows with segmental heads on the ground floor, as well as similar windows on the right-hand return. The lean-to has a ledged door. The framing of the earlier block appears to be fairly complete, showing three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate.
