Description

The Leys is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill set on a rubble base, along with painted brick replacement walling and plain tiled roofs. The building has a brick stack located to the southeast of the main roof. It consists of three framed bays arranged roughly east to west, with an external rendered rubble chimney and a brick stack to the north of the central bay. An original wing, which is slightly lower in height, is attached to the south at the junction of the west and central bays.

The house is two storeys tall, with framing that includes four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and collar and tie-beam trusses with struts. The east end truss has been replaced in the 20th century. On the south front elevation, all the windows are 20th-century leaded casements. The main range features a two-light and a three-light window on both storeys to the east of the wing. The main entrance, located between the two ground floor windows, has a 20th-century half-glazed gabled timber porch with scalloped bargeboards and a 20th-century door. The gable end of the wing includes a three-light window on the ground floor and a two-light window on the first floor. Inside, the house retains its large fireplace.
