Description

Church House Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The building features a mix of timber framing with rendered infill on a rubble base, as well as rendered rubble, all topped with plain tiled roofs. The layout consists of a hall and a cross-wing.

The hall section is likely two bays long and runs east to west, with an external rubble chimney and a brick stack on the north side. The cross-wing, which is two bays, is attached to the east end and has an external chimney on its east side. The structure is one storey with an attic that includes dormers.

In terms of framing, the hall section has three panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate and short straight upper corner braces. The cross-wing features two large panels from sill to wall-plate, a short straight brace in the upper left corner of the north elevation, and a long straight brace across the lower right corner of the upper right panels. Above, there is a collar and tie-beam truss with four struts below the collar and V-struts above.

On the north front elevation, the windows are 20th-century replacements. The hall part includes a three-light casement window, an eight-pane window, and a rectangular window on the ground floor, along with two gabled dormers featuring two-light casements. The cross-wing gable end has a two-light window and a single-light window on the ground floor, as well as two attic lights. The main entrance, located on the right side, features a glazed 20th-century door with a lean-to canopy supported by a timber post, which extends to the external chimney. There is also an attic light at the west end and a single-storey rubble wing at the west end that includes a rectangular light and a recessed ledged and battened door.
