Barn About 10 Yards North-West Of The Woodlands

This building is a barn located about 10 yards north-west of The Woodlands. It dates from the 17th century and was altered in the early 20th century. The barn is timber-framed with rendered infill, standing on a tall plinth made of sandstone rubble and brick, topped with a plain tiled roof. It has three framed bays that run in a north-east to south-west direction, with a central wagon bay featuring a cart entrance on the south-east side.

The framing consists of two and three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners. The roof structure includes collar and tie-beam trusses, each supported by two struts to the collar and a V-strut at the apex. On the south-east elevation, there is a square light and a stable door to the left of the wagon bay, and another stable door to the right. Attic lights are present in the gable ends, and double doors have been inserted into the plinth at the south-west gable end.

Inside, the roof features two intermediate collar and tie-beam trusses with V-struts at the apex of each, along with a single tier of trenched purlins. The outer bays of the barn are floored. The Woodlands itself is not included in this listing.
