Description

  1. GREAT MOULTON WOODROW LANE 5321 TM 19 SE Barn immediately 8/1257 east of Woodrow Farmhouse

  1. Agricultural store, original use unknown but possibly a stable or dwelling. Late C16/early C17. Timber framed and weatherboarded on plinth, all tarred. Later shallow-pitched roof of single-roll clay tiles. Later inserted double doors on west side. Later lean-to's on east side; east wall partly rendered and colourwashed. Interior: of four structural bays, tie beams on jowled principal posts; arch-braces to tie beams flanking entrance bay. Mortises for 'diamond' window mullions in underside of wall plate in each bay (except centre bay, east side). Shutter grooves to window openings; windows generally of 4 and 5 lights. Wall plate chamfered with lamb's-tongue stops between principal posts. Braces to wall plate and gable-tie from corner posts. Tie beam to north has mortises for a stud partition. South gable has evidence of ground floor and first floor mullioned windows, nine lights wide on ground floor. Later roof structure with purlins strutted off tie beams, some original rafters re-used. Later gabled extensions to north and south. Forms group with item 8/515, Woodrow Farmhouse.
