Description
Baston Hall is a farmhouse dating from around 1620, with significant repairs and alterations made in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed, featuring small rendered square panels, some brick walling, and a sandstone rubble plinth, topped with tiled roofs. A central sandstone rubble chimney stack has a cluster of four diagonally set brick shafts. The layout is T-shaped, with a front range consisting of three structural bays. The left bay contains a parlour, while the right bay features a "hall" with a central baffle entry. There is a single service bay at the rear. The farmhouse has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar beneath the parlour. Tiled weatherings are present above ground floor level, and all windows are 20th-century casements with rectangular leaded lights.
The front elevation is symmetrical, with the outer bays having regularly spaced windows on both the ground and first floors. A gabled, two-storey porch projects from the central bay, with the first floor slightly jettied on a moulded bressummer, and a 20th-century timber door beneath. There is also a timber door to the cellar in the west gable end. The interior has been extensively renovated, featuring large back-to-back fireplaces on both floors and a 20th-century staircase traditionally positioned at the rear of the stack.
