Description
Wood Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with some parts refaced or rebuilt in the mid to late 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure sitting on a coursed sandstone rubble plinth, with plastered and painted brick infill. The north-west and south-west sides have been partly rebuilt or refaced in painted and rendered brick. The roof is covered with 20th-century interlocking concrete tiles.
The building consists of four framed bays, oriented approximately north-east to south-west. The framing includes square panels, with three panels extending from the sole-plate to the wall-plate, and short straight corner braces. The rear wall has scotches. The farmhouse has one storey and an attic.
On the south-east front, there are two 20th-century flat-topped eaves dormers featuring 2-light metal casements. A central brick ridge stack is located just to the right of the entrance, alongside a long painted coursed sandstone rubble external end stack to the right, topped with red brick. The front has three windows: a 19th-century three-light segmental-headed wooden casement to the right, a 20th-century three-light metal casement off-centre to the left, and a small 19th-century segmental-headed casement to the left. There is a segmental-headed boarded door off-centre to the left, positioned between the first and second windows from the right, and a 20th-century lean-to concrete-block porch with a central 3-light casement and a door to the left. The rear has four windows and two 20th-century raking brick buttresses. The interior has not been fully inspected, but chamfered beams have been noted in the kitchen.
