Description

Harewood Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the 1600s, with alterations made between the 18th and 20th centuries. It features a combination of rubble and weatherboarded timber-frame construction, topped with a slate roof. The main range consists of four framed bays aligned east to west, with a single bay kitchen at the north-east corner. There are three stone stacks located in the west gable, between the two bays at the east end, and on the gable of the kitchen. A probable original entrance porch is situated in the angle of the building.

The south front of the farmhouse has two storeys. On the upper floor, the three bays to the left have weatherboarding over the framing, which consists of two square panels high. Each bay contains one window: there is a 19th-century casement, a 17th-century wooden cross mullion window with rectangular leaded lights, and a 20th-century raked top dormer. The ground floor features three 20th-century casements of varying sizes, with a door to the right; the two windows and door have concrete lintels.

Inside, the ground floor is characterized by stop-chamfered beams throughout. Originally, there was a stud-and-plank partition between the two central bays of the east/west range, which has now been removed. The eastern room retains a large timber lintel above the hearth. The staircase, which dates from the early 18th century, features turned balusters and a moulded handrail that has been reset.
