Description

Hipplecote Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with an extension added in 1799. It features a timber-frame structure set on a high rubble plinth, with brick infill and a plain tile roof. The older section has two framed bays on the left, while the right side has two additional framed bays. There is an outshut at the rear and a 20th-century gabled extension at right angles, creating an overall L-plan. The cottage is one and a half storeys tall, with an attic lit by two gabled dormers. The older part has two windows and a ledged door, while the right side has two 20th-century windows. The gable end facing the road is made of rubble with brick dressings around segmental-headed casements on each floor. The framing is mostly intact, with the sill beam largely replaced. The older section has two square panels high, and the gable truss features queen struts to the collar and V struts in the apex. The later portion was partially renewed in 1984.
