Description
26, The Village is a cottage dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame with brick, concrete block, and wattle-and-daub infill, topped by a plain tile roof and has no chimney stack. The building is one storey high with a gable-lit attic. The street-facing side has no windows in one structural bay, while there is a 19th-century door located at the right corner. To the left, there is a 19th-century extension made of brick and narrow scantling softwood frame, also with a door to the right.
The framing consists of rectangular panels three high to the wall-plate, with straight tension braces on the right gable. The roof truss includes three queen struts and V struts in the apex, along with trenched purlins and three rows of restored weatherings. Inside, the ground floor features chamfered and stopped beams. The cottage was undergoing restoration at the time of the survey.
