Description

Numbers 16 (Crown House) and 18 are two houses that were originally one house built in the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber-frame structure with brick infill and a rubble outshut at the rear. It has a hipped roof covered with plain tiles and brick stacks on both the left gable and towards the right. The original layout was L-shaped, consisting of three rooms in the front range and one in the limb of the L. The house is two storeys tall and has three ranges of windows, mostly 19th-century casements. The entrance to number 18 is located on the right side, while number 16 is accessed from the rear. The framing includes three structural bays of square panelling, although much of the ground floor panelling has been replaced with brick on the exterior. Inside, there are chamfered and stopped beams, and the roof features a combination of queen strut to collar and raking strut trusses, along with trenched purlins.
