Description
Mortimers is a house that was once two dwellings and a shop, dating from the mid-17th century. The building has been altered, with its roof raised and extended in the 20th century. It features a timber frame on a brick base, with 20th-century panelled pargetted rendering and a steeply pitched machine-tiled roof. The layout consists of a three-cell lobby entry, with an early one-bay addition to the left. The house is one storey with an attic, and the entrance is now located in the center, accessed through a 20th-century closed glazed hipped porch. The windows are small pane casements with two and three lights, accompanied by hoodboards. There are four dormers with raking heads, two on the left featuring horizontal sliding sashes. A rebuilt ridge stack is positioned behind the entrance, while the left gable end shows exposed plates with an earlier roofline visible. The right end has a half-hipped design with a 19th-century external stack and exposed plates. At the rear, there are scattered casements and one dormer, along with a one-storey 20th-century garage addition on the left. Inside, some framing is exposed, showcasing tension braces, jowled posts, and cambered tie beams.
