Description

The Priors is a house that likely dates from the late 16th century, with a casing from the mid-19th century and a 20th-century extension. It features a timber frame that is cased in red brick, with some areas of cement render and tile hanging. The roof is steeply pitched and half hipped, covered in tiles. The house consists of three cells and has two storeys.

On the ground floor, the entrance is located to the right of the centre, flanked by three small pane casements with three lights each. The first floor has three small pane casements with two lights each. All window openings are recessed, with chamfered reveals and segmental heads on the ground floor, and they are irregularly spaced. The right end of the house is cement rendered with scoring to resemble ashlar, and there is a plinth made of red brick and flint. The left end features a sash window on the first floor. At the rear, there is a ground floor casement with two lights and a flush frame, also with a segmental head. A short 20th-century wing is located at the rear right, possibly replacing an earlier kitchen wing; it has some old red brick at the base on the outer face and is tile hung over the ground floor, topped with a gabled dormer. There are two rebuilt stacks on the rear slope of the main range and on the ridge of the later wing where it connects to the main range.

Inside, the house has re-used stop-chamfered and roll-moulded bearers, jowled posts, cambered tie beams, and a clasped purlin roof with curved windbraces.
