Description
No 14, The Village is a house that was formerly a smithy, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber-frame construction with rendered infill set on a high brick plinth and painted brick, topped with a slate roof and brick stacks. The building has two storeys, with the upper storey raised in framing during the 19th century. The windows exhibit irregular placement, primarily consisting of 19th-century casements. The framing includes two structural bays with straight tension braces that are partly cut away. A 19th-century wing made of painted brick projects forward on the right side, which is believed to be the former smithy, and it has a stack situated between it and the timber-frame section. There is also a substantial brick stack, which is partially rendered, with a detached shaft located on the left gable. The building is included for its group value.
