Description

Greenwood Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is timber framed with painted brick infill, a plinth, and an extension, all topped with slate roofs. The building has a single-cell plan that is extended by a short lower range to the right, which was added in the late 19th or early 20th century. It has one storey and an attic.

The framing features square panels, with two extending from a high cill (painted black and white to imitate a timber frame) to the wall-plate. There is a long straight tension brace to the left corner, and long straight tension braces along with jowled wall posts on the left gable end, which includes a queen-strut truss. The cottage has a 19th-century casement window in the center of the ground floor and a 20th-century gabled eaves dormer to the right. The entrance is through a 20th-century door located under a contemporary lean-to hood on the left gable end. There is an external red brick end stack to the right, with the top rebuilt in late 19th or early 20th century brick. The late 19th or early 20th century extension features a segmental-headed casement window on the front.
