Description
The Island is a cottage dating from the mid-17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed with a timber frame and has rendered and painted brick infill on a painted brick plinth, topped with a concrete tile roof. The building is one storey with an attic and appears to consist of three framed bays.
The framing features square and rectangular panels, with two and three panels extending from the cill to the wall plate. The end trusses are queen-strut types with V-struts from the collars. There are five 19th-century casement windows in the framing panels, with two on the left side featuring cast-iron latticed lights and three on the right side, including one on either side of a 20th-century gabled porch. A 20th-century gabled eaves dormer is located to the right of the centre, with a red brick chimney stack positioned directly behind the ridge to the left. Additionally, there are 19th-century painted brick lean-tos on the right gable end and at the rear.
