Description

Bank House is a farmhouse that later became a post office and is now a house. It dates from the early 17th century, with later additions and alterations. The building is timber framed with red brick infill and has a straw thatch roof. The original structure is a two-cell cottage with an end baffle-entry plan on the left, which was extended by two bays to the right in the late 17th century; the right bay may have been agricultural in use. The house has one storey and an attic.

The framing features rectangular panels, with two panels from the cill to the wall-plate, supported by short straight braces from the wall posts to the wall-plate and tie beam. There is a queen-strut end truss on the left. The original part has a 19th-century casement window on the far left and two grouped casement windows in the centre, with a gabled eaves dormer directly above the right window. A 20th-century panelled door is located on the far right, with a red brick ridge stack (the former end stack) directly above it. The later 17th-century addition includes a six-paned sash window on the left and a small 19th-century casement window on the right, with a red brick ridge stack between them. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
