Description
The White House is a cottage located in Colemere, dating from the early 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill and a straw thatch roof. The original layout consists of two wide framed bays, which appear to have been slightly extended to the right. The building has one storey and an attic. The framing includes irregular square and rectangular panels, with two panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate, short straight braces from wall posts to the wall-plate, and a slightly cambered tie beam at the left gable end, which has a collar and tie beam truss. The windows are a mix of 19th and 20th-century casements, with two on the left and two on the right of a 20th-century boarded door located to the right of centre. There is a raking eaves dormer immediately to the left, a red brick ridge stack to the left, and an integral end stack to the right. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
