Description
The Old Vicarage and attached outbuildings is a house that was likely built around 1870 by the architect G.E. Street for Marian, Viscountess Alford. The building is constructed of rock-faced sandstone ashlar and features sprocketed eaves and coped verges supported by carved stone kneelers. It stands two storeys high and includes a moulded floor band and stepped diagonal buttresses at the corners.
The windows are slightly irregular, consisting of 2- and 3-light stone mullioned designs with cast-iron latticed lights. There are three windows directly below the eaves on the first floor, with one to the left and two to the right of a double-chamfered pointed doorway located to the left of centre. This doorway has a diagonally boarded door with decorated strap hinges, and there are windows on either side, the left being a lancet window. Above the entrance is a single-chamfered pointed recess featuring a carved cross. The building has integral end stacks on the left and right, a ridge stack to the right of centre, and an internal stack in the rear left corner, all topped with moulded capping. There is also a double-chamfered pointed doorway on the right gable end and a two-storey lean-to at the rear on the left.
Attached at right angles to the rear on the left are contemporary single-storey L-shaped outbuildings. Inside, the hall at the right end of the house features encaustic tiles and retains the original pitch-pine staircase.
