Description

Rose Cottage is a farmhouse that has been divided into cottages and is now a house. It dates from the early to mid-17th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. The structure is timber framed with red brick infill, which is painted on the front, and features a straw thatch roof. The building is one storey with an attic and appears to be in three or four framed bays, originally having a central baffle entry.

The framing consists of slightly irregular square and rectangular panels, with two and three panels from the cill to the wall-plate. The right side has square panels, while the left side has rectangular panels. There are short straight braces from the wall posts to the tie beam at the left gable end, which features a queen-strut truss, and V-struts from the collar to the right gable end.

On the exterior, there are four 19th-century casements in the panels of framing, all except the central one, which is likely in the position of the former entrance, and has cast-iron latticed lights. There are boarded doors to the left and right, with a raking eaves dormer immediately to the left of the right door. A red brick stack is positioned directly behind the ridge at the center of the roof. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
