WEM RURAL C.P. TILLEY Oak Cottage [formerly listed as No. 13 (Oak Cottage) and No. 12]

GV II

Farmhouse, latterly divided into 2 cottages, now one house. Early C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber framed with painted brick infill; plain tile roof. 2 storeys and attic probably formerly lit to gable ends; apparently of 3 framed bays. Framing: close studding to ground floor with long straight tension braces; hewn jetty to first floor, perhaps originally continuing to gable ends but ground floor underbuilt in brick, with moulded bressumer supported on carved brackets to corners and centre; widely spaced vertical posts and middle rail with diagonal struts forming diamond patterns. Two C20 three-light leaded casements directly below eaves and one to ground floor to left, all in position of original windows with carved brackets below cills. C20 panelled door roughly to centre inserted in position of fourth original window. Central red brick ridge stack. Interior: not inspected but likely to be of interest. B.O.E. p.301.
