Description
Wem Mill is an early 19th century mill building that features a large extension added around the mid-19th century. The original section, located at the north, is constructed of red brick and has a low pitched hipped slate roof with a sandstone ashlar plinth. It stands three storeys tall and has three bays, with the centre bay being blind. The building is adorned with sash windows that have glazing bars and plain stone lintels. There is a central doorway above ground level, which has a modern platform in front and a large modern canopy above it. The side elevation facing the road also has three bays, a wide gable, and a central doorway on each floor, topped by a gabled hoist house. There are blind windows on the left and right, with ground floor sashes.
The mid-19th century extension to the south is a large red brick structure with a tiled roof featuring stone coped gable ends, shaped kneelers, and stone eaves. This part of the mill rises four storeys and includes an attic, with four bays and doorways on the left and right for each floor. The windows are iron-frame and set in segmental-arched openings. A tall chimney stack rises from the east side of the extension.
