Description
This is a barn located about 20 yards north-east of Bowling Green Farmhouse. It dates from the 17th century and has early 19th-century alterations and additions. The structure is part timber-framed with brick infill on a brick base, featuring brick replacement walling with blue brick dressings and some tile-hanging at the east end. It has a plain tiled roof and consists of seven bays aligned roughly east to west. The wagon bay is in the third bay from the east end, with opposed cart entries that have double doors on the north elevation, while the south elevation is bricked in. The barn is partly two levels and displays diaper ventilation patterns. The framing is exposed in the two east bays, on the north elevation, and at the west gable end, with four rows of panels from sill to wall-plate, some lower corner braces, and a collar and tie-beam truss with two collars and four struts to the lower collar, and two to the upper collar at the west end. The south elevation features openings with cambered heads, including three windows, three doors, and a loft opening. Inside, the roof has queen post trusses with lower raking struts and two tiers of purlins. This large barn is prominently situated next to Bowling Green Farmhouse and is included for its group value.
