Description

Plas Cadwgan is part of a house that likely dates back to the 14th century and was re-erected in 1976. It features a timber frame supported by a steel frame and concrete, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The structure includes two trusses of an open hall: a central cruck truss and a spere truss, which is designed as an aisled truss. The aisle posts rise to meet the principal rafters, and above the high-set collar, there is a king-post that supports the ridge with longitudinal braces. Arch-braces extend from the aisle posts to the purlins, and the screen in the spere is fitted with a floor over the through-passage, creating a gallery. The wind-braces are cusped. This building was removed from Plas Cadwgan in Esclusham, Denbighshire in 1968.
