Description

The Guesten Hall Roof is a timber-framed structure dating from around 1320, which was rebuilt in 1865 and restored in the early 1970s. It features corrugated asbestos cladding and consists of seven bays supported by eight ornate trusses. Each truss includes an arch-braced collar with two raking struts above. The central part of the V shape is a quatrefoil, while the two spandrels are designed as trefoils. The roof also has two tiers of moulded purlins with cusped and pierced wind-braces. Originally part of the Guesten Hall of Worcester Priory, the roof was re-erected on Holy Trinity Church in Worcester in 1865. After the church was demolished in 1969, the roof was moved to Avoncroft and restored to its original pitch.
