Description
The String of Horses is a pair of houses that have been converted into a shop and offices. They were likely built in 1576 for John Worral and were re-erected and restored in 1975 and 1976. The structure features a timber frame with rendered infill and a tiled roof, arranged in an L-shape. It stands two storeys high with an attic at the gable end of the right range. The building has four windows on the upper floor, all of which are three-light, except for the one on the right, which has five lights. On the ground floor, there are three windows, including a two-light and a three-light casement. The right-hand corner features a 19th-century shop front with a plate glass window and an entrance that is angled across the corner with a glazed door. To the left, there are two additional entrances that have restored carved doorheads and 20th-century doors. The framing on the first floor is jettied with close-studding and a mid-rail, and the studs are supported by cabled pilasters with corbel heads. The building was relocated from the corner of New Street and Frankwell in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, in 1971.
