Description
This is a barn, now used as stables, located about 15 yards west of Little Hartle Farmhouse and No 71 in Hartle. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The structure is timber-framed with brick infill and replacement walling set on a sandstone base, topped with a slate roof. It features three framed bays oriented north to south, with a central wagon bay that has opposing cart entries, double doors on the west side, and weatherboarding with an inserted double doorway on the east side.
The framing consists of two panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and a collar and tie-beam truss with struts at the north gable end. There are also two open panels with shutters facing east. Inside, the roof includes an intermediate tie-beam truss with raking struts and another intermediate collar and tie-beam truss with two struts, along with a single tier of trenched purlins. The outer bays are floored. Little Hartle Farmhouse and No 71 are not included in this listing.
