Description
The milepost located immediately to the east of the bridge at Autherley Junction on the Shropshire Union Canal dates from around 1830. Made of cast iron, the post features three panels arranged in a two-over-one configuration. The lettering on the panels reads: "AUTHERLEY JUNCTION," "NANTWICH 39 MILES," and "NORBURY JUNCTION 15 1/2 MILES." This milepost marks the junction of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal with the Shropshire Union Canal.
