Description
Bridge No 1 over the Shropshire Union Canal is a bridge built in 1830 by Thomas Telford. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings. The bridge features a brick elliptical skew arch and a stone-coped parapet on a platt band. The parapet on the east side is swept forward, and the middle parapet separates the eastern section, which serves as a roving bridge for horses using the towpath. An oval iron plaque on the east side displays the number 1. This bridge is located at the south-east end of the canal, where it connects with the Staffordshire and Worcester Canal.
