Description

The Shropshire Union Canal Toll Office, located to the northwest of Bridge No. 1 at Autherley Junction, dates from around 1830. It is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a hipped slate roof with a brick stack. The building is designed in a U-plan and is a single storey. The front range includes a canted bay with five sash windows and additional flanking windows, all of which are four-pane horned sashes. There is a large axial stack with four pots. The two wings at the rear have 20th-century glazed infill. This toll office is a rare surviving example of its kind.
