Numbers 45-51 And Attached Railings To Numbers 47 And 49

Numbers 45-51 and the attached railings to numbers 47 and 49 form a terrace of four houses, built around 1818 to 1828, and later altered, including the addition of outbuildings to the rear. The houses are constructed of pinkish-brown brick in stretcher bond, with a painted stucco facade. They are three storeys high with basements, and originally had eight windows on the first floor, arranged in a 2:2:2:2 pattern. The first floor features a moulded band interrupted by windows, with Doric pilasters above the windows, extending through the first and second floors. The first-floor windows are 8-pane French windows with margin lights in plain reveals. The second floor has two 3/6 sashes, while the remaining windows are 4/8 sashes in plain reveals with sills. A cornice runs along the top of the facade. The ground floor has seven and eight steps up to the entrances on the left, right, and left, with part-glazed and three-panel doors in fielded-panel reveals with overlights, alongside 6/6 and 8/8 sashes in plain reveals with sills. The basement windows are a mix of part-glazed double doors and 4/8 sashes. Chimney stacks are located at the ends of numbers 45 and 47. The interior was not inspected during the listing process. Numbers 47 and 49 have lancet railings to the sides of the steps. Brunswick Street was laid out in 1818 and built up by 1828.
