Description

Sunnyside is a house located on Castle Hill Lane in Upper Brailes, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed from regularly coursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched tile roof added in the 20th century, along with brick stacks at each end. It stands two storeys tall plus an attic and has a two-window range.

The entrance, positioned to the left, features a four-centred arched opening with a chamfered head and jambs, along with remnants of a hood mould. It has a plank door fitted with strap hinges and a 20th-century hood above it. To the right of the entrance, there are two 20th-century windows inserted into the original openings, with renewed stone mullions. On the first floor, there is a two-light stone mullioned window that has a renewed hood mould. The left end of the house includes another two-light stone mullioned window with a hood mould and label stops, as well as two small rectangular windows with opening lights. It is noted that the house was originally thatched, with the thatch extending down to shoulder height at the rear.

Inside, the property features stop-chamfered beams and chamfered joists, a wooden winder stair, stone flag floors, a fireplace with a bressumer, and a wooden post with a post hole. A 20th-century wing added to the right side of the house is not considered to have special architectural interest.
