Description
The Malthouse is a house dating largely to the 17th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of regular coursed ironstone rubble. The steeply pitched roof is tiled, and there are two rendered chimney stacks, one to the ridge and the other to the left. The plan is based on two units. The building has two storeys and an attic. The entrance is now into the adjacent barn, which is not of special architectural interest. A canted bay window on the ground floor is flanked by a three-light and a two-light casement window. A first-floor window has white painted stone surrounds, an inserted casement, and a renewed hood and label stops. To the right is a two-light window from the 20th century. The right end of the building features a two-light stone mullioned window, with fragments of a hood mould and label stops remaining. The rear of the property has a two-light stone mullioned window on the first floor. Inside, there are stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The altered fireplace has a chamfered bressumer, and the ground floor retains a stone flag floor. The first floor has wide plank flooring, and a winder stair leads to a straight flight.
