Description

Cornerways is a house dating from the mid-17th century, located on the south side of Tysoe Shipston Road in Upper Tysoe. The house is constructed of squared, coursed ironstone with quoins, and has a 20th-century tile roof with brick ridge and end stacks. It is two storeys high, plus an attic, and has a two-window range. The plan is based on two units. A 20th-century extension is attached to the left. The front gable has a 17th-century three-light stone mullioned window on the ground and first floor, with a two-light mullioned window above. A further three-light stone mullioned window is in the left façade, with a two-light stone mullioned window in a gabled dormer above to the left. The rear gable end has two three-light stone mullioned windows to the ground and first floor, with a blocked single light above. All mullioned windows have hood moulds and label stops. Inside, the house features chamfered spine beams with stepped stops, a large inglenook fireplace with a chamfered brussummer with ogee stops, and a 17th-century cupboard with a moulded surround. There are further chamfered spine beams with ogee stops on the upper floor, and the house is said to retain original roof timbers.
