Description

Brown Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century and early 18th century. It is built of squared, coursed ironstone and features a thatch roof with brick end stacks. The cottage has one storey plus an attic storey and a two-window range, following a two-unit plan. At the center, there is a 19th-century plank door, with 19th-century wooden two-light casements on both the left and right. All windows and the door have wooden lintels. Above to the right, there is a two-light leaded casement, and another leaded casement is located at the left gable end. Inside, the cottage has a chamfered spine beam and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer that has stepped stops.
