Description

Hydes is a house dating from the early 17th century, constructed of regularly coursed ironstone rubble. It features a steeply pitched thatched roof, with a stone external stack at the left end and a brick end stack on a stone base to the right. The building has a 3-unit plan and stands two storeys plus an attic, with a four-window range of stone-mullioned windows. The entrance, located to the right, has a cambered stone doorway with chamfered jambs and soffit, leading to a 20th-century door. To the left of the entrance are two 3-light windows with lead cames, and to the right is another 3-light window with lead cames. The first floor contains three 2-light windows and a small rectangular window with a stone surround above the door. The left end features a 2-light window on either side of the external stack and an attic mullioned window, while there is a window with a stone surround to the cellar. At the rear, there are mullioned windows with crown glass and bars, all of which have hood moulds and label stops. Inside, the house has stop-chamfered beams, stone flag floors, and a wide inglenook fireplace with a massive bressumer and stop-chamfered stone jambs. There is also a four-centred arched stone fireplace with chamfered jambs and soffit in the room to the left. A 20th-century garage extension is located to the right.
