Description
Green Gates is a house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a tiled roof and features brick end stacks set on stone bases. The building has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a two-window range. The windows are three-light casements with timber lintels on both the ground and first floors. There is a cellar window with a stone surround on the right side and a small blocked window with stone sill jambs and a lintel on the left side of the first floor. A 20th-century roof dormer is located on the left end, which also has a stone-coped gable with kneelers. The entrance is at the rear, accessed through a 20th-century porch. Inside, the house features ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer. The roof retains its original principals and purlins, along with some thatch beneath the 20th-century tiles.
