Description

Orchard Cottage is an 18th-century house located on School Hill, Newnham. The house is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a thatched roof and brick end stacks. It follows a two-unit plan, with two storeys and an attic, and has a two-window front. A four-panel door is positioned to the left of the centre, surrounded by a moulded wooden frame. The ground floor features a two-light casement window to the left and a three-light casement window to the right, both with timber lintels. Matching two-light casement windows are situated on the first floor, also with timber lintels. The corners of the building are defined by quoins, and the gable ends are stone-coped with kneelers. A single-storey extension to the left incorporates a tile roof, brick nogged eaves and a 20th-century three-light window. The interior of the cottage has not been inspected.
