Description

Compton Pike is a 16th-century structure, likely built as a beacon and later used as a landmark. It is constructed from coursed squared ironstone rubble and has a square base that tapers upwards to a point, topped with a ball finial featuring an iron hook at the apex. This beacon was part of a network designed to warn of the Spanish Armada's landing. The iron hood at the top would have held either a lantern or a flaming fagot.
