Description
142 and 144 High Street are a pair of houses dating from the late 18th century. They are constructed of roughcast and painted brick, featuring a gabled old tile roof with brick stacks at the rear, a brick coping along the party wall, and some renewed tiles. The houses have a two-unit plan and stand two storeys tall with a four-window range. There is a brick plat band above the ground floor and a plain cornice at the top.
Each house has a central entrance. No. 142 has a 20th-century door in a moulded frame with a gabled canopy, flanked by 20th-century bowed windows. The first floor features large windows with 20th-century three-light small-paned casements. No. 144, to the left, has an entrance with a four-flush-panel door flanked by 20th-century windows. The first floor has two small windows with small-paned casements that include iron opening casements. The interior has not been inspected.
