Description

This is an 18th-century house with later alterations, located on the east side of High Street, Henley-in-Arden. It is built of painted brick, with a gabled Welsh slate roof, red ridge tiles, and a brick end stack. The house has a two-unit plan.

The exterior is two storeys high with a two-window front. The entrance, on the right end, features an architrave to a half-glazed, panelled door. A renewed canted bay window with small-paned glazing is on the left. The first floor has windows with two-light, small-paned casements. A milestone dated 1748 is set into the front wall to the left. The rear has a gabled wing with small-paned casements.

The interior was not inspected.

Attached to the house is a milestone dated 1748. It is constructed of ashlar, painted gloss black within a brick surround and inscribed with the following information: "FROM LONDON / CII MILES / FROM STRATFORD / VIII / TO BIRMINGHAM / XIV / 1748."

The High Street was formerly the main route between Stratford-on-Avon and Birmingham. The cottage was originally listed jointly with No. 183 before being listed separately on August 2, 1972.
