Description

Manor Lane School, originally a house, dates from the 18th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th century. It is constructed of brick with a limestone ashlar facade and features a hipped roof covered with graduated slate, along with brick stacks at the rear. The building is designed in an L-shape and consists of two storeys plus an attic.

The exterior is symmetrical with a three-window range. It includes a first-floor sill band and a top cornice, along with rusticated quoins. The entrance is framed by an architrave, pilaster strips, a frieze, and a bracketed pediment above a six-panel door, which has four glazed panels and two fielded panels. There are two-storey bay windows with sills and cornices, featuring paired windows with rounded upper angles and key blocks, as well as similar sidelights. The central first-floor window is also detailed with an architrave, key block, frieze, and cornice. All windows are fitted with plate-glass horned sashes. The building has three pedimented dormers with slate-hung sides and two-light small-paned casements.

The brick returns and rear of the building display dentil brick cornices, with the left return featuring a hipped dormer. The rear of the building is two storeys high. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have a stick-baluster staircase.
