Description
New Court is a house built in the early to mid-19th century, with alterations made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It features finely jointed brick construction with ashlar dressings and a hipped slate roof that has overhanging eaves and brick stacks at the rear. The building has two storeys and a cellar, with a moulded plinth and eaves cornice. It is designed with three bays and corner pilasters, with the central bay projecting forward. The windows have gauged flat heads and ashlar sills, including two ground floor 4-pane sashes and three first floor 16-pane sashes. The central entrance has a rendered replacement or restored doorway topped with a pediment and entablature supported by corbels, along with an original panelled soffit and jambs, and a half-glazed door. To the left, there is a large ashlar bow window with an entablature above panelled pilasters and three large bowed 4-pane sashes, although the rear window is now blind. A substantial two-storey wing is located at the rear right of the house. Inside, round archways lead off the central lobby, and a marble fireplace is present in the right ground floor room. The left ground floor room retains its window shutters, and large columns support a shaped timber lintel in front of the bow window. A block of stone on the right side of the building is dated "1847".
