Description
Upper Bauldbyes is a house built in the early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is made of brick with ashlar dressings, now rendered and painted, and features slate roofs with raised and coped gables. There are five brick stacks.
The exterior consists of two storeys plus attics. The south garden front has a symmetrical five-window facade, featuring a central doorway with a six-panel door and a painted door surround supported by single Doric columns, topped with an entablature and pediment. On either side of the doorway are two 24-pane glazing bar sashes with panelled external shutters. Above, there are five similar windows, also with external shutters.
The north entrance front has an off-centre doorway with a projecting pilastered porch and a panelled door, connected on the left to a single-storey link with a four-light casement window. Above this is a Venetian window with glazing bar sashes, and to the left are two 12-pane glazing bar sashes. The right return features a large three-light casement window and a small two-light plain sash, with another three-light casement and a plain sash above.
The irregular rear facade to the west has an attached square outbuilding with a square hipped roof and a central stack, which may have served as an external kitchen.
The interior has not been inspected but is reported to include a central hall with dado panelling and an original early 18th-century wooden staircase with turned balusters. The panelled east room has an original fireplace and shutters, while the panelled west room features recessed bookcases and an original fireplace. The upper rooms also retain original panelling, fireplaces, and shutters in most rooms.
