Description

Bank House is a house that dates from the early 16th century, early 18th century, and late 19th century. It is built of red brick with a rendered entrance front and has a slate roof featuring three brick gable stacks. The building has raised rendered quoins and a first-floor band, and it is two storeys tall with a T-plan layout.

The east entrance front has five windows and a central doorway that features an ashlar doorcase with double brackets and a hood, along with a part-glazed three-panel door and an overlight. On either side of the doorway are two glazing bar sashes in raised surrounds with bracketed cills. The rear facade includes a small late 19th-century canted bay window and above it is a glazing bar sash. The south front has a four-light casement window, with another glazing bar sash above it. The south gable features a 20th-century lean-to conservatory.

Inside, the ground floor room to the north has full-height raised and fielded panelling from around 1700, along with moulded coving and a 20th-century tiled fireplace. There is a single flight and return staircase with a continuous string, turned balusters, square newels, and a moulded handrail. The rear kitchen, which was formerly a dining room, has raised and fielded dado panelling and two semi-circular alcove arches. Most windows are fitted with panelled shutters, and most doors are panelled with moulded surrounds.
