Description

Kyrewood House is an early to mid-18th century house. It is constructed of finely jointed brick with ashlar dressings, and has a hipped plain tiled roof hidden behind a plain parapet, with brick end stacks. The house is three storeys high, with a cellar. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. The main facade has five bays, and the windows have gauged flat heads and ashlar sills. The ground and first floors feature 12-pane sashes, while the second floor has 6-pane sashes. A central flat-roofed brick porch, with an ashlar parapet and moulded eaves cornice, provides access to the front entrance. The entrance itself is recessed, with a round-arched head, Gibbs surround, and flush-panelled double doors, topped by a barred segmental fanlight. Round-arched windows are set within sunk panels on the side elevations. The road-facing elevation is of three bays, and features casement windows with cambered heads. A central doorway has an open pediment and engaged columns. A two-storey wing adjoins the left side of the road elevation. Inside, the entrance hall is almost circular, with a glazed dome and decorative plasterwork.
